ADRIFT IN A BOAT
FISHERMAN'S CLOSE CALL A narrow cseano Was experienced by Mr. D. Rgpatini, of South Bay, Kaikoura, while fishing at South Bay af the week-end. Mr. Kapatiui, who was fishing in a boat 200yds. out, noticed the heavy easterly wind approaching and immediately lifted tho anchor and began to row to the .shore. Halfway to the short' one oar Snapped in half ami Mr. Kapaiini immediately dropped the anchor. The, seas gradually became worse ami he decided to drift with the wind in the hope of landing down the coast. By steering the boat with the remaining oar ho managed to keep inshore and eventually landed at Kahatarnu Hirer, five miles away. His plight was noticed previously by a' fisherman, who set out on a search. When all hope had been practieallv given up Mr. Rapatiui returned home, having been picked-up by a service car. 1 ' in Bggg*
