SCIENCE AND COURAGE

SAVED CHEF’S LIFE OTTAWA. Fob. 11. At Resolution Island, a (lovernineni radio station at- the eastern end of Hudson Straits, a chef, Andre Lajoie, fell into the water when (he ice broke, and then, half-frozen from his icy immersion, clambered upon an ire cake less than a yard square, upon which he was marooned. An Eskimo known as •Tommy rescued him with great difficulty when Lajoie was near death. There was no doctor within hundreds of miles, and a Government physician at Ottawa prescribed treatment by radio. Science and human courage together saved the chef’s life.
