PETROL IN CALIFORNIA
PRICES DOWN AGAIN EOS ANGELES, .March 14. Service stations throughout Southern California were making their heaviest sales in many months to-day, as sunny motoring weather was met with a further cut in the price of gasoline. Major companies, after lowering the price of siaudard brands to 11.!, cents (sjd) a gallon yesterday, authorised a further cut of ,UI a gallon to-day. Standard Oil led the, latest reduction with an order from Sail Francisco. Shell, Union, and. Richfield followed during the day, but with the exception of Union, tank wagon prices had not been cut below the prevailing! wholesale price of 8' cents (4Jjd) a gallon. Union authorised a 7', cent (sjjd) rate to dealers. 'Uompetiiion with the so-called “bootleg” gasoline brands, which sell between 5 and 9 cents (2!d and 41 d) a gallon, was responsible for the recent cuts, which saw the prices tumble from 18!, cents (94,(1) within the space of a few weeks.
