ALLEGED THREATS

SEQUEL TO TALKIES MAN BEFORE COURT (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. Alexander Lawson McLeod, 08, a clerk, wlio was arrested at Newmarket yesterday morning, appeared at tlic Police Court charged that on December 1 last lie sent to Alma Grey u letter containing threats to kill her sons. Mr. Noble, appearing for the accused, asked that McLeod be released on bail. “He is a decent; sort of man. I think it’s only a .joke. Why, it’s preposterous,” added counsel. “I think lie had been to the pictures and had seen ‘Dr. Fu Manehu’ and then went home and wrote a letter to his sister-in-law,” said Mr. Noble. The magistrate fixed bail at £IOO.
