SEARCH FOR GOLD
USE OF AEROPLANES FIELD IN NEW GUINEA WILDS BRISBANE. March 10. Mr. A. A. X. Pent land, a National Airways pilot, is one of the syndicate ol three who propose to search for gold in New Guinea with the aid of aeroplanes. They left Brisbane by the Marsina for New Guinea to-night. The partners in the venturi' are Mr. Pentland and Messrs. J. M. Bourkc and If. Holdswortli. In New Guinea they will peg out claims in a remote spot, which so far has been regarded as “no man’s land.’’ It was located by Mr. Bourkc, who lias had experience in the Edic Creek goldfields. lie said tonight that he was satisfied lie had discovered a rich field, but realised that in a country where even black porterage could not penetrate Hie mountain barrier, aeroplanes would lie the only solution of the transport problem. Arrangements have been made to use Moth aeroplanes, which will have lo climb 112,000 ft. to clear Iho ranges.
