THE KAISER HELPED HIM WAR PRISONER LONDON, Feb. 13. A war secret of how a British officer, when a prisoner of war in Germany, was given a fortnight’s parole by the Kaiser: to enable him to visit his sick mother in England, is revealed by the Daily Sketch FLo was Major K. C. Campbell, of the East Surreys, who was taken prisoner at Mons. Two years later lie heard of his mother’s serious illness, and sought permission to visit her before she died.

This was refused, but the camp censor unexpectedly came to his aid. “The only possible way is to make a petition direct to the Kaiser,” he told Campbell, and even helped him to write it.

To Campbell’s jov. it reached the Kaiser, and brought the desired permission, the only condition being that he must not reveal any secrets when in England. He was escorted to the Dutch frontier, supplied with funds, and was in time to sec his mother.
