QUEER TOLAGA BAY CASE

(Special to the Herald.) TOLAGA BAY, this day. A man in at state of starvation while in. possession of several hundreds ot pounds in bank notes was found on the road near Tolaga Bay. He was located bv a traveller, who noted the man s evident distress. He was brought into the police station, and appeared to be in such a bad way that he was taken to hospital. liater, when a nurse was going through the man’s clothes, she was surprised to discover a handle of Commonwealth Bank notes of a total value of £B4l. , , Although it was at first thought the case was one for the police, it is now considered that the man is suffering from some mental derangement. lie has been in the Gisborne and 'lolaga Bay districts for some time, and is believed to be the white man who was seen making off into the bush a few months ago at the approach of a stranger. It is reported that the patient is unable to provide any information about himself, and apparently his memory is a complete blank.
