BOY SHOT

PLAYING WITH LOADED RTTT.T! Flannigan McManus, 6, was accidentally shot by his cousin on the farm of their grandather, Mr. H. McManus, sen., near Lake Ngataki, Waihopo, on Sunday 1 , reports a Kaitaia correspondent. The boys were playing with a rifle, which unknown to them was loaded, wnen it suddenly exploded. Flannigan McManus, who is the son of Mr. Hugh McManus, jun., was shot through the chest and died instantly. The noise of the shot was heard in the farmhouse and an uncle of the boys, Mr. T. McManus, rushed to the scene. Flannigan McManus was lying on the floor dead, with a gunshot wound in his chest and a few feet away Ernest McManus was also lying on the floor, knocked unconscious by the recoil after the shot.

It was some time before Ernest McManus recovered The police were informed of the accident and an inquest was opened at Houhora-.
