THE ECONOMIC ISSUE
(To the Editor of the Herald) Sir—The Observer's suggestion to all whom the Imperial Economic Conference to be held at Ottawa in lft-1 *jft concern, to consider carefully WBat action they propose to take, Rffl&g to submit the following tor the. Onseiver's approval:—• ~ To avoid incurring the Observer s displeasure, we cubs have no alternative than to refrain from twisting the lion s tail. Ergo,, let us find out what Mr, Shdwdeh wants, then kneel down before him and kis<! his feet, Saying: "As thou sayest, lord, so therefore let it be. And, as imitation is the sincerest form of flatterv, let us adopt the United Kingdom's breed of fiscal policy, which is the reSult of centuries of evolution. Mr. Snowden and his fellow lions have given practical demonstrations of the possibility of importing into the United Kingdom slave-grown Soviet wheat, etc.. and manufactured articles, and selling them in England at considerably less than production and manufacturing costs in m British Empire. If Canadian and Australian wheat is rotting, well, it serves those Dominions right for being cubs. Mr. Snowden points the way. Sometimes we manage to sell a little meat and wool to the United Kingdom afc riearly half the production costs. And in the "vast expanse of Mr. Saowden's generbsity ho will be only too pleased to See lis buying Soviet manufactured articles at about half the United Kingdom's production costs. Finally, those who mutter of changed x conditions with regard to world fiscal let its frown down and reprove with the word "Scub-."—Yours, etc. ANYTHING TO OBLIGE.
