BURGLED A POLICE STATION
LONDON. Dec. 22. 11 “the nearer the church, the further from God,” why not “the nearer the police station, the further from detection?” Perhaps it. was so that a London ex-constable falsely argued with himself when, as is alleged, lie attempted to break into the canteen of the Leman street (East End) police station. “This is the first time I ever heard of anyone trying to burgle a police station,” said the magistrate, when the man was charged with attempted warl'-tiouse-breaking. It was staled that when the accused was arrested he had a screwdriver wedged in the door ol the canteen.
