DEPOSITS NOT WANTED
VICTORIAN SAVINGS BANK (Received Jan. 3. noon.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 3. A London cable stated that the agency of the Victorian State Savings Bank has been instructed to refuse deposits, and this is believed to he a nreliminaiv to its closing. The general manager, Mr. Gooch, said it was not intended to close the London agency, but further deposits were not wanted, as the present rate of exchange rendered the transfer of money unprofitable.
