FIRE IN CONVENT
EVIDENCE OF INCENDIARISM (Per Press Association.) NAPIER, last night. Evidences of a deliberate Inn unsuccessful attempt to burn down the Convent School in Hcretaunga street, Hastings, were discovered by firemen and the police when summoned by an alarm given at 'i5.20 a.m. to-day. Little damage was done to the building, wb'.ceh is old and is built entirely of wood, and which is shortly to be replaced by n new building, towards the construction of which thousands of pounds have been collected. After the fire was extinguished, il was discovered Iha I sol me had forced open n window, and after pouring benzine or kerosene, on I lie iloor had thrown down a lighted match, A passer-by noticed Ihe outbreak and gave the alarm. The brigade quelled the outbreak before any very serious damage was done. The insurance is £IOOO ill the Phoenix office.
