CHANGED FORTUNES
ENGLAND ALL OUT FOR 193 SOUTH AFRICA 303 FOR SEVEN TWO EXCELLENT STANDS (Elec. Tel, Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received December 27, 2 p.rn.) CAPETOWN, Dec. 26. A holiday crowd of 12,000 enjoyed many thrills when tho test, match was resumed in brilliant sunshine. A. feature of the morning’s play was the deadly howling of Nupcn, who never war. in better form, turning sharply both ways and nipping off the wicket. The English wickets fell rapidly alter the dismissal of Hammond, who was steady, and hit five boundaries.
The. fielding was brilliant. The English innings lasted three hours .10 minutes. With Tate- and Voce bowling excellently, Siedle and Ctirnow opened South Africa’s second innings quietly, hut- confidently, and gave no indication that two wickets would he down for 50. Mitchell and Catterull were associated in a brilliant prirlnorship, and added 122 runs J'or the third wicket in 95 minutes. This stand was only 12 short of the African third wicket, record, made by Taylor and No'tirso ‘in 1922. Mitchell is easily the host hat in Africa after Taylor. His 72, including seven boundaries, was scored in 125 minutes. Gatterall, in .95 minutes, included one six and live, fours.
The English howling was lacking sting when Voce was resting. White, Peebles, and iTainirioiid were all heavily punished. A tier lea Tate and Voce were again dangerous, and secured some cheap •wickets. Cameron and Viljoen fought back to a safer position, however, scoring 81 in 55 minutes, Cameron hitting five boundaries. The bowling was again without sting towards the end of the day, but the fielding was good. Details:— MARYLEBONE First Innings Wyalt 8.
