N.S.W. BETTING TAX
BOOKMAKERS DESERTED SYDNEY, Dec. 25. The attendance at the Rand wick races was larger to-day, but the bookmakers are pessimistic about tbe effects of the betting tax. Even more liberal odds failed to attract bettors. One prominent bookmaker expressed the opinion that the tax would fizzle out as its proceeds will be so far below what was anticipated. The totalisator also seemed to find fewer patrons.
