KAITARATAHI MEETING BIG CROWD'S ENJOYABLE DAY Members of the Kaitaratahi Kporls Club have every reason to congratu late themselves on I lie success of tlicir eighth annual sports meeting, which took place yesterday. The meeting was held on Scott’s Bush reserve, a most attractive ground, which provided ample shade and comfort for the many picnic parties which spent the day at the gathering. The weather was unusually hot, but the cool eluiup of native frees on one side of the ground provided welcome shade, and tin 1 conditions were by no means unpleasant. There was a very large attendance at the sports, and an indication of th(> size of the crowd can lie, gained from the fact that there were over Kill cars parked on the ground, to say nothing of the several buses which brought out a large number of people from town and from other country districts.

Excepting the professional races, the numerous ('vents attracted a large number of well-known athletes and riders. All amateur events, both, those for men and other for ladies, tvoro well entered for, and some good performances were witnessed, while a large number of the district’s best horsemen and horsewomen made the horse ('vents particularly interesting. The professional events, however, were poorly supported; there were eight entries for each of the cycle races, but the out fit's for the Hat races were so few that all these events were struck off the programme for the day. Complete satisfaction was given by the judges in all sections, and their decisions were not; disputed. The arrangements in the secretary’s department were excellent; Mr. W. Noonan ,proved a capable and efficient secretary, and was ably assisted by the treasurer, Mr. Cl. B'rosby. The judges of the athletic events were Messrs. IT. F. Forster, F. Tolerton, and I?. Bigger, and the judge of the horse events was Mr. .1. A. Fivers. The referee was Mr. ('. McCoy, the starter Mr. C. Sutcliffe, and the timekeepers Messrs. 11. 1). Wade, A. F. Ingram, sen,, and M. McMahon, sen. Members of the St. John Ambulance Association were present, and their services were required on several occasions. Seven of the cyclists were injured, but though their hurts were of a painful nature, none of them was serious.
