As a result of two years’ investigation directed by Fir Hubert Smith, it is stated that Londoners are more sober, healthier and betler educated than 4ft years ago. Londoners to-day consume 50 per cent, loss alcohol, smoke twice as much, travel more, spend four times as much, read four times as many books, and are less inclined to crime and x iolenee.

The Cockney dialect is disappearing, but the Cockney twang is spreading to other classes.
