OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE <P»r Press Association.) WELT INGTON. last night. Whiteman's Valley School, in the Upper Hutt district was totally destroyed by lire on Sunday morning. An elderly wqinan, Airs Allen, mother of the schoolmistress, and a small grandson, who were sleeping in the Tivirig qutulers attached to the school, narrowly escaped• death, having to leave by a winaow in night attire. The Haines were breaking through the walls when tlie grandson awakened. The schoolmistress was away at the time in hospital.
