A Ninon Meets Her Match
'jpHE author of "Tho Rich Young Man," Aliss G. AL Attenborough, has just written a new novel "Lady of Daylight," a book full of fascinations for the reader wlio delights in flowers of phraseology, a flavoring of French quotations, a sprinkling of the classics, and historical references. "Lady of Daylight” is set in England's smallest county of Rutland, and an ancient ami lovely Rutland manor house in the little feudal village of Crown frames the story. But though there is an abundance of incident —of peace and of war, rural, social and academic—it is primarily a portrait and presents in its central character—Dianoine, a woman of gentle culture, fine humor and exquisite charm who is confronted with the task of averting from her only son the catastrophe which overwhelmed her father. This threat comes from tlio wiles of Dawn, a modem Ninon who meets her match in the ancient Victorian servitor, Jemima Jee.— (Cassell.)
