Tailored Styles for the Early Summer
CHART tailored suits in silk, satin, and shantung will appear at many different functions this season. Borne authorities assert that only the coat of short or half-length will be smart this season, but no practical woman will discard the useful three-quarter, or even the quite long coat, in the summer, certainly, the very short coat is smart in silk and shantung for slim and youthful wearers, and the halflength is usually very becoming and useful; but older women will much prefer the three-quarter coat, and will look their best in it. With coats that are half-length or short the hem-lines are treated in various ways, with the skirt arranged to correspond. A favorite way is to have points arranged in the centre of a slightly'inverted pleat let in the centre, back, and sides, or scnllopedall round a basque dipping at the back. Peplum .effects arranged in double tiers, with the skirt following a similar trend, often have an openwork or needlework design to edge the hems. Sometimes simple -braided decorations are used, with very smart results. A black faille with a basqued shaped coat may have the points bordered with a soutache design, while a short navy eut-awav coat and skirt is good, edged with a crocheted wool design. Short Sleeves Revived. The straight collar is a feature to be reckoned with this season, both on dresses and coats.. The short sleeve appears also. For the young it-is a pretty fashion. Very attractive for young folk are separate short jackets in brightcolored wool fabrics and gay, colorful designs in cotton. Some of the smartest arc cut in reefer fashion, with two rows of gold or silver “livery” buttons. With a scarlet coat a “cloche" in a similar shade of felt is selected.
Some early summer cottons look delightful in white, or any pale shade, with materials in the fancy designs made into short jackets, or a halflength cape-coat to wear over them.
