Charles Ilarataud, who in June, 1927, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Devil’s Island, the French penal .settlement off the coast .of South America, for allegedly murdering a taxi-driver, has written, instructing his counsel to pay the man’s widow, Madame Fame, 132000 compensation. Counsel is arranging the payment. It is noticed that Barataud no longer protests Ids innocence.'
