MONTHLY MEETING AT WAIROA (Herald Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the Wairoa Chamber of Commerce .there were present, Messrs. U. deV. Robinson, president. It. Tapper, sell., J. A. Pidduck, 11. Rose, I!. ’l’. Esther, li. Ashby, il. E. .Stanton, and T. .Lambert. Apologies were noted oil helinll ol Messrs. ,1. ,1. Millar, 11. (Jl'nlit, J. Macdonald. M. J. tleiumell. and C. A. C. Hyde. The Minister m charge of the Depart incut of Tourist and Health Resorts wiote regarding the upkeep of the track to the. foot of I e Reinga halls. A member stated that the clearing job Would now lie a 'bigger one than expected, as a had slip had come down on the track. It was decided to let the matter drop for the present. The .Minister of Customs wrote i:i leplv to the chambers letter on the subject of preventing tin 1 passing on to the public of more than the recent extra taxation. The matter was, he stated, noted for consideration. The chairman reported on the recent public meeting regarding the railway service, and said it had been very successful. He also reported oil the arrangements made for the ( handier luncheon. His action was confirmed, and the sub-cominiltoe given power to act in regard to future luncheons. Tim Minister of Industries and Commerce wrote regretting that nothing could lie done m providing 'accommodation I'm' campers at Rosie Bay. Waikarcnioana. Mr. \Y. I). Lysitiir. M.R.. wrote slating that he had been informed ollieially that wireless had been installed at I’mtlaiul Island. In regard to the. Auckland Automobile Association's imitation to the opening ot the new scenic route through the Crewci a country, the chairman voiced; his thanks to Mr. J!. Trevor Smith, the resident engineer of the Public Works
Department, for having taken him and utliei niemoei* to the rendezvous. A letter of thanks is to be sent. The Auckland chamber wrote' stating that it had not considered a change in the method of insuring and paying out mi properties destroyed by tire. The present system was the best, fiaving for actual losses and not the amount ot the cover. The I’almerston North chamber asked for support for the proposed translei'euce of the iad ways to an independent hoard of directors. Received.
