A UNIQUE BANQUET
HEINZ CO.’S ENTERPRISE WORLD-WIDE CELEBRATION Perhaps one of the largest banquets ever attempted will be given next Saturday in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, when tho firm of Heinz will dedicate their theatre and recreational buildings to the use of their employees, and give an international radio banquet commemorating 61 years of friendly relations with their employees. Over 500 leading men of the United 'States will attend the function.
The most interesting point, is the fact, that in all parts of the world all Heinz branches will hold banquets timed to coincido with the main event. In New Zealand this will be at 11.30 a.nr. on Sunday. Tho same menu will bo served tho world over, and arrangements have been made that the speeches and the concert will bo broadcast to all parts ot tho world.
In all, over 100 banquets will bo held, at which something liko 11,000 employees will attend. While tho functions arc timed to start at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday night., Pittsburg time, broadcasting will not commence until 8 o’clock, which timo is equivalent of 1 o’clock on Sunday afternoon New Zealand daylight saving time. Short-wavo enthusiasts will have an opportunity of picking up tho programme from any of tho main American stations, or from England, Spain, Canada, South Africa or Australia. A description of the building, which has been constructed in marble and bronze tile art work, states that it is 350 ft long and 100 ft in breadth, and is only one of 26 Heinz buildings in Pittsburgh. Half of the new building is devoted to tho theatre, accommodating more, than 3000. This is equipped with an amplifying system, air cooling and heating equipment, talking picture apparatus, a. huge pipe organ with four manuals and 100 stops, and other general theatre devices. In the other half, there are four employee restaurants, seating 3500, also rooms for vcreationnl and educational activities.
During the ceremony the. employees are to unveil a bronze tablet inscribed : “This tablet is placed hero by the employees of the. 11. ,T. Heinz Co. to mark 61 years’ continuous friendly relations, and to record their appreciation of this auditorium and service building dedicated to their use, comfort and happiness.”
Speeches will ho made bv such pro minent men as President Hoover, Sir Henry Thornton, head nf the Canadian National Railways; Mr. Charles -NaMo, Secretary of Commerce and Labor in Mr.
Taft’s Cabinet; and Mr. Howard-Heinz, and these, together with solos by grand opera stars, and selections on tho great pipe organ, will he broadcast from all stations, including tho short-wave stations of Pittsburg and Oakland, California. *
