“FELT OUT OF IT”
YOUNG WOMAN’S THEFT PURCHASE OF A TROUSSEAU (Special to the Herald.) HAMILTON, this clay. Charged with the theft of £75 while acting as postmistress at Horotm, Margaret Galbraith Crawford, 20, appeared in the Police Court at Hamilton. It. was shown that the money was taken over a period of six weeks and the magistrate asked how the defendant could have spent £lO a week on herself at Horotiu. Counsel explained that the accused was to be married shortly, and a portion of the money had been spent on a trousseau. - In a statement to the police, the accused said her wages, apart for her board money, was given to her parents. She had no money to spend on her self, and having seen other girls enjoying themselves had felt “out of it. ’ ’ The case was adjourned to allow counsel to ascertain where the money had gone. “Some of the money must have been spent while in company with the young man, and if she was .worth marrying lie should come forward and help to explain the position," said the magistrate. The girl was subsequently admitted to probation for 12 months, the magistrate, Mr. Wyvcrn Wilson, saying he thought she had learned her lesson.
