UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD SUPPORT FOR MR. FOWLER (Per Press Association.) Wellington; last night.. The Farmers’ Union has decided to support the nomination of Mr. A. ,E. Fowler, as representative of the primaryproducers on the Unemployment Board. The selection' of Mr. Fowler by the Sheopowners’, Federation was announced by telegraph from Christchurch, and later in the day it was announced from headquarters that the union would support the selection. • Mr. Fowler has had experience as a sheepfarrnep and was the farmers’ representative on thp commission which inquired into special cases .of hardship Created by the imposition of the super land tax last year. .The, complete re-, missions of the tax amounted to £68,552, while reductions were made amounting to- £31,734, a total saving to the farming community of £118,286. L. llutchinsdn to represent- the secondary industries qn the Unemployment Board has been endorsed by the Canterbury Employers Association and' the Master Builders’ Association. The Timber Workers’ Union 10-nigbt nominated Messrs. G. T. Thui'stou (Chfistchurcli) and T. ( Blood worth f Auckland), and the retail shop assistants nominated Dir. G. T. Tliurston and Dir. W. Bromley (Wellington). These two were also nominated by the Canterbury General Laborers’ Union. Mr. E. Baldwin, president- of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, who had been nominated as workers’ representative, has withdrawn from nomination on the ground that lie considers the Minister's powers under the Act too great. He contends that there should he an election of the workers’ representative. A similar protest was made to-night by the Timber Workers’ Union, but the union sent forward its nominations.
