Earnshaw, Gisborne, and their little son arc spending a holiday with Air. and Airs. Thom, Ormondvillc. Recent guests at the Masonic Hotel, Napier, included Airs. G. S. Kemp, Gisborne. Among the race-night parties one of the jollicst was that given by Air. and Airs. F. Tolerton, when tlieir pretty home was filled with flowers and music and numbers of people who danced and commiserated with each other about tlieir respective losses and congratulated all who had found (he goddess of luck in kindly mood. Tolerton greeted her friends wearing a lovely frock of pale pink georgette, adorned with trimmings of embossed marquisittc. _ Air Elioth Gruner, the noted Australian artist, is the guest of his niece, Mrs. C. R. Skect, Clifford street. Air. Brian Cannell, an English painter, is accompanying AD. Gruner in a tour of New Zealand.

The hurried departure of Mr and Mrs If. McLaughlin for Kelson, where Mr. McLaughlin has been appointed relieving manager of the Bank of Xew Zealand for three months, gave the friends of tho popular couple little opportunity to say good-bye, but Mrs T. Y. Cuthbert managed to give a pleasant afternoon tea on Monday. The hostess’ flat in Townlev Buildings was fragrant with stock and gay with Iceland poppies, and Mrs Cuthbert was gowned in pretty printed chiffon in brown with autumn leaves scattered about if. Mrs McLaughlin wore navy blue crepe do chine with a floral pattern and a becoming black hat. On Tuesday Mrs G. A. Xieholls gave a luncheon party for Mrs McLaughlin, and Mrs Edgar Boss poured tea in her honor on Tuesday afternoon. Mr and Mrs McLaughlin left Gisborne this morning.

The Mangapapa 'Girl Guides held their annual meeting on Monday, and a report was read by the secretary, Mrs. A. Clare, on a most successful year’s work. Tho guides have done very well in their training, and their social activities, which included a birthday party, several garden parties, and sales of work, have been very enjoyable. The troop at Mangapapa includes ‘JO guides and 20 brownies, and, like the scouts of that district, they all work very hard to perfect themselves in the activities of the movement. Thanks are due to Mrs. C. Ferris for allowing meetings to be held in her cosy home and for providing nice afternoon teas for the committee. At the conclusion of this particular meeting afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Ferris and her friends, and some excitement was caused by the presence of a clever person who read tea-cups and found good fortune for everybody therein.

The gardening circle of tlie Gisborno Women’s Club will hold its rose and summer flower show next week, and this promises to provide a charming exhibition for flower lovers. It wnl be an open afternoon to which members of the general public are very cordially invited. Afternoon tea will be provided, and it is hoped that all members will make a special effort to exhibit blooms, if only of one variety. The committee will be delighted to find spaco for decorative floral work of any kind, but particularly table decorations and bouquets. Skating Party. Miss Shirley Ormond organised an extremely jolly .skating party on Friday evening at the Ormond Hall, the time passing all too quickly with grimes and competitions.
