TIROA DOCKED

ANNUAL OVERHAUL WORK DONE IN GISBORNE Swinging lazily at her moorings while she was manoeuvred into position above die cradle in preparation to being docked this afternoon for l annual overhaul and survey, the small coastal steamer 1 iroa was iiauled oil to the Gisborne Harbor Board's slip shortly after I. giO <• clock, and she was high and dry three-quarters of an hour later, ~ , Since Saturday morning members of the.crew and local artisans had been preparing the vessel for her overhauls which commenced in earnest immediately she was hauled clear of tho wafer. With the sea water still dripping from her slimy hull, cleaners, shipwrights, and engineers swamgd over tljie ship, while, others were, engaged in scraping and painting her timbers. In view of suitable docking accommodation being available here, owners, the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meal and Mercantile Co., Lid., decided to have the work done locally, in order to provide employment for Gisborne artisans, and at the same time save the expense of sending a representative to Auckland to supervise the overhaul. It is anticipated that the work will occupy two days. , The Tiroa’s timetable' will ho maintained by tlm motor ship Margaret W, tho former vessel resuming in the East Coast service next week. This is the second time the Tiro,a has been docked in Gisborne, for about six months ago she was put on the slip here for repairs to her lail-shgft.

The Tiroa was Imilt at At'.klaml in 1917 by Messrs. W. H. Brown, Ltd., shipbuilders.
