SHIPPING DEPARTURES Friday, May 2. Awahou,. s.s. (8.50 p.m.), 410 tons. Jones, tor Auekland. The VVaimea leaves Auckland on Tuesday evening for Gisborne and Napier. She is due Here on Thursday morning. The Wainui leaves Wellington to-day for (Napier and Gisborne, and should arrive here next Wednesday. The Kaiinai is due here on Tuesday from Greymouth, via Napier, with coal. The Aorangi, from Sydney, is due at Auckland on Monday, and sails the following day for .Suva, Honolulu and Vancouver. The Niagara, from Vancouver, should reach Honolulu on Wednesday, and sail that day for Suva, Auckland and Sydney. The Tahiti is due at San Francisco next Friday from Sydney, via Wellington, Rarotonga, and Papeete. The Marama should arrive at Wellington on Monday from San Francisco via Papeete and Rarotonga. She is due at Sydney on May 10. The Awahou sailed at 8.50 p.m. yesterday for Auckland. She leaves there on Tuesday evening for Hicks Bay, Toko mam Bay, and Gisborne, being! due here on Thursday night. The Pakura is due here to-morrow morning, from Wellington, via Napier, with general cargo. The vessel sails on Monday afternoon for Wellington. The Parera should arrive hero on Tuesday from Greymouth, via Tokomaru Bay. The motor-ship Margaret W will resume in the Auckland-East Coast-Gis-borne service next week, leaving Auckland dh Tirekday afternoon. She is due dieji'e on Thursday morning. The Tiroji,-'which left Auckland at 9 p.m. to'-day for Tokomaru Bay and JittborntL is due hem on Monday afternoon. , . (j Ifhe New Plymouth-Onehunga ferry service has been discontinued, after he.infe 55 years in operation, by the NorthS.S. Co. When the Ngapuhi sailed in; lier last trip last night a large crowd |it;.the wharf gave the steamer a rousing farewell. An indication of the trend of modern transport is in the fact that New Plymouth is now without a regular passenger service for the first time since the founding of the province.

THE WEATHER (Last Night’s Forecast.) An intense anticyclone is still centred near the Tasman, bfit the pressure is relatively low over and to the east of New Zealand. Conditions are rather disturbed in the north Tasman. Winds: South Westerly over the South Island and south-west to south-east thence northwards; moderate for the most part but freshening at times. Sea's (N.Z. waters): Moderate south-west to southeast winds in eastern Tasman but freshening in the northern portion; seas smooth to moderate; weather rffainly fair to fine, but changeable at times in eastern and southern districts, with some isolated showers; cold temperatures with some night frosts. (To-day’S North Island Report) Blue skies were reported everywhere in the North Island this morning except at Opotiki, where Conditions wore overcast. Light variable breezes were gen oral, southerlies in the north, and northmires in the south. The barometer showed practically no movement. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were : Auckland [)3 degrees, Tauranga and Wellington 50, Opotiki 57, East Cape 54, Gisborne 55, and Napier 49. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere. The indications am for moderate southerly or south-easterly winds. There is it prospect of fair [ weather, with cool temperatures, but isolated showers are to be expected. Barometer has little movement, but, the tendency is to rise. Sens and tides moderate.
