PREPARATION OF REPORT NO UNNECESSARY DELAY READY IN ABOUT THREE WEEKS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received May 3, noon.) LONDON, May 2. Sir John Simon, chairman of the Indian Statutory Commission, denied today that there bad been any undue delay in tho issue of the report of the commission. Ho said ; “The larger part of the report is not only in tho printer’s hands, but if, is in flu: final form for production, and what remains is in an advanced slate. It ought to be remembered that the commission could not enter upon the preparation of its report, which necessarily lias To cover a vast range of questions, including many which are quite as important as tTrose prominent in public notice until last September, after joint sittings which the Indian Central Committee in London concluded. If it succeeds in completing the report in a few weeks, the time taken will not be more, than was necessary for a full consideration of the numerous complex questions involved in an inquiry of the highest constitutional import a nee, not merely for the moment., but tor the future.” II is understood that the worn will be completed in about three weeks. The commission, consisting of seven members, was appointed in November, 1927. Its main terms of reference were to examine the existing system of Indian government and advise on necessary changes, and state bow far responsible government might be conceded. It. visited India twice, and there made personal investigations on the. spot. Witnesses and experts have I bee n examined in London. and some leading Indian centres, such as Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras.
