OBITUARY
Mr Jess 'Herbert, one of the earliest settlers of Hawke’s Bay, passed away on Thursday, aged over 90 years. Deceased came to New Zealand with his parents, Mr and Mrs Joseph Herbert, at the age of two, his parents being original settlers in the Wellington district. At a later age he went to Hawke’s Bay, where, with his brothers, he took up a large tract of land in the district now known as Herbertvillo. Later deceased farmed in the Wairarapa and also at Hatunia and on retiring lived for a few years at Grecnmeadows.
The death occurred in Dunedin on Thursday at the age of (58 years, of Mr. Maurice Coughlan, who was for many years proprietor of the Provincial Hotel,
