Mr. P. If. Harper, S.M., who lias been on annual leave, returned to Gisborne yesterday. l)r, A. L. Singer lias been appointed to succeed Mr. J. R Kirk on Hie Gisborne High School Board of Governors. The first woman to obtain a pilot s license in Auckland is (Miss Inn Wight, of Devon port, who passed her test at Mangere aerodrome yesterday morning. The Governor-General, Lord IMcdisloe, arrived in Auckland last night from To A roll a, where he had spent the day duck shooting. Lady Blcdistoe is also there. They will remain in Auckland for six months. There is no truth whatever in the report circulated in Auckland that Col. S. S. Allen, Administrator of Western Samoa, contemplates retiring from that position. Ifis father-in-law, Mr. A. L. Foster, who lives in Auckland, said Col. Allen’s recent letters had contained nothing that would lend color to such a report, and yesterday a radio message was, received in Auckland from Col. Allen stating definitely that lie had expressed no wish to retire.
