PROSPECTS OF DEFICIT PEESIDENT URGES ECONOMY WASHINGTON, April 22. Despite the previous prediction of ;i surplus, President Hoover .stated that on the basis of the Budget, proposals appropriations already passed, the Treasury faces a deficit of £4,000,000 to £6,000,000 for the fiscal year 19301931. He asserted thai pending measures would add another £0,000,000. This required the most rigid economy. Mr. Hoover has not mentioned the measures, about which he has expressed "real alarm," and the attempts of Senator Borah to discover in the Senate the explanation thereof met with failure.
