SENTENCE TO STAND
EXECUTION OF PODMORE NO DOUBT AS TO GUILT LONDON, April 19. The Home Secretary lias declined to advise interference with the death sentence on William I’odmore, who was found guilty of murdering Vivian Mcssiter. An unusually lengthy communication from the Home Office deals with several points which have been publicly raised and concludes that in Mr. Clvnes’ mind there is not a scintilla of doubt as to the prisoner’s guilt. William Podmoro was arrested by Scotland Yard officers as he was leaving Wandsworth prison on December lb. He was taken to Southampton, where he was charged with murder.. The body of Mr. Messitcr was found inside a private garage at Southampton. Tho door was padlocked outside. Mr. Messitcr had been missing lor JO weeks. The theory of the police was that the murder was committed away from the garage and that the body was taken there subsequently. A post-mortem examination revealed the fact that death occurred two months before llie discovery. Deceased was last seen on October 30, 1928.
