(10.50 700 tons, ■Co’ldicutt, for Wellington. Tlv Awahou, which has been on the slip at Auckland for cleaning and painting, resumes in the AucklandEast Uoast-Uisborne service this week. She sails from Auckland to-morrow evening for Hicks Bay Tokomaru Bay, and Gisborne, and should arrive here on Thursday night. The Pakura sailed, hence at 10.50 p.m. on Saturday for Wellington. The vessel loads there to-morrow, and sails to-morrow eight for Napier amt Gisborne. She should arrive here on Friday morning with general cargo. The motor, ship,Margaret W, which has been, undergoing annual overhaul and survey at; Auckland, leaves tomorrow evening for Hicks Bay, Tokomani Bay, Tolaga Bay, and Gisborne. She is due here on Thursday .morning, and sails again that evening on the return trip north. At present building at Barrow-in-Furness, two new 21.000-ton vessels for the Peninsular and Oriental S.N. Co.'s Australian passenger trade have, now been named. They will be known respectively as- the Strathnaveri and the Strathaird. The new vessels are expected to be launched in 1951. Burning oil fuel, they will have turbo-electric drives. In addition to large saloon passenger accommodation, they will be fitted with comfortable third-class cabins. Winds: North-east to north and freshening strong to gale force in (he far north. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough north of East Cape amt rising on the west coast; elsewhere moderate. Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds in the eastern Tasman, veering later to southerlies. Seas rough in the northern portion: moderate elsewhere. Weather: Unsettled with rain north of Cape Egmont aud Gisborne, and extending gradually southwards —temperatures mild.
