LOAN FOR ARGENTINA
AGENT IN LONDON REQUEST TO PRESIDENT NEW YORK, April 4. The possibility of a financial liaisou between the Argentine and Britain as the result of the recent visit of the British Economic Mission, was indicated by a note addressed by the Buenos Aires representative of Baring Brothers to the retiring President (Senor Irigoycn), asking him to send a financial agent to London, empowered to negotiate financial matters there. The note added that the Bank of England was much interested iu establishing closer contact with the Argentine National Bank, and suggesting that the agent should he authorised to open conversations with British financial agents regarding loans, reciprocal credits, gold movements, etc.
There have been rumors current in the last two months that the Argentine Government is negotiating* with American bankers for a loan of 400,000,000 dollars. It is now reported that the negotiations have been extended to London, and that the latter city, as well as New York, will participate. The Gaja Do Conversion, it is believed, would be reopened, permitting a free gold movement, if a loan were arranged.
