CRUDE OIL
LAKES ENTRANCE WELLS WATER ENTIRELY ABSENT MELBOURNE, April 8. Since Saturday nearly fit) gallons id crude oil has been recovered from-the Imre of the South Austi'nlian Oil Wells, Ltd., at Lakes Entrance, t.lippsJaiul. The chairman and directors of the company visited the' bore to-day. It had boon closed down since Sunday morning, pending'an inspection. Three effective bailings were made to-day, when the maximum oil showing on the outside of, the bailer was lift at a depth of 81-t:sft. II was significant that each time the bailer was lowered in tin 1 casing the depth of oil showed an increase, tin* increase since Sunday morning being tiff.
Mra. 11. S. Lyne, general field superintendent. of the company, said that water was entirely absent from the oil. fy had been determined delinitely that oil in commercial quantities existed there. The bore was again sealed, and another tost will be made to-mor-row. Mr. .1, Bieruey, chief engineer for boring, and .Mr. E C. Watson, ol the Mines Department., were present at the inspect ion.
