WOMAN CHARGED
"BUSINESS'OF A BOOKMAKER" Dorothy Devonport White was charged in- the Whangarei Magistrate's Court this weak, before Mr. G. N-, Morris, with carrying on the business of a bookmaker. Senior Sergeant O'Grady said a' constable ori Sunday fiigHt had found accused's office door ajar, and on entering found a desk covered with betting material. Constable's Brown and McKay gave corroboraltivo evidence. There was <•> telephone and- a wireless set in the office. An argument that the police were not within their' rights,in entering"the building was put' forward by Mr. Trimmer, counsel for accused! The magistrate granted a request that accused lie remanded for a fortnight.
