Campaigning Bristol and Weston-super-Mare on behalf of the Empire trade crusade, Sir James I'arr .said farmers in New Zealand favored Empire free trade because it doubled their market. He emphasised that Australia and New Zealand were Britain's best customers, but were treated no better than the ['lnlanders and the Siberians, despite the fact that New Zealand gave Britain the highest preference.
