PEOPLE A HATE ON ROAD
THE PASS-AT-ANY-PRICE MANIAC There is a certain type of driver who, although he may not want to travel fast himself, is incapable of restraint when passed by Another (tar, writes "Motorist." Here is an example. Coming back from Wairoa to Gisborne in a hurry I passed a car that was travelling at a modest speed. Immediately the driver speeded up, and in a few minutes was grounding his horn to pass. I let him go. As soon as he has satisfied his lust for passing he slowed down again to his former place. T should not hnvo minded in the least if he had gone ahead.
Tint ho was now causing an obstruction, so continuing ray normal speed I passed him again. Again he trod on the accelerator, tootled his horn angrily, passed, and then slowed down again. There was nothing left to do but to pass him this time once and for all, which meant travelling much farter than my scheduled speed. There ought to be a homo for this type of maniac.
Ho exasperates other drivers, incites modest drivers into racing on the road, and thinks that he or his car is insulted just because some one may be in n hurry. He is a "stirrer-up" Of trouble.
