AN ADVERSE BALANCE

DOMINION'S TRADE EXPORTS DOWN £8,000,000 IMPORTS £4,000,000 MORE (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The conversion of an'excess of exports of £12,048,478 into an excess of imports of £122,097 is the feature of the Dominion's overseas tratle returns for the financial year ended on March 31 last, which were made available by the Minister of Customs, the Hon. J. B. Donald to-night:— The Minster stated that the total values of the exports from, and imports into, New Zealand for the period were :- £. Exports 49,045,817 ' Imports 49,167,914 Excess of imports ... 122,097 The exports had decreased by £8,108,526 as compared with the previous financial vear and the imports had increased by £4,062,049. The principal cause of the decline in the exports had been the lower prices obtained for wool this season and the decreased quantity exported. The present is the fourth year since 1921 when the balance has been of an adverse nature. The following tables supplied by the Minister show the total quantity and values of some of New Zealand's leading exports during the last three financial years:— QtJANTITY Wool (bales) quantity 1927-28, 723.708; i'92B-29. 635.683; 1929-30, 603,260.
