GISBORNE SECTION THE ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Gisborne section of the Public Service Association was held last evening, Mr. J. Jackson presiding over a good attendance of members. 'lhe proceedings were fairly brief, there being no business of outstanding interest to transact, beyond the appointment of officers for the ensuing year.
The report submitted to the meeting showed the present membership of the section at 162, an increase of 21 on the past year. A point of particular interest is that though a proportion of the subscriptions were outstanding at the. close of last year, the section headed Now Zealand in the matter of financial members in proportion to the size of the section. The report mentioned deputations to members for the district in respect to the salary claims of public service members, and tha maintenance of interest in the executive work throughout the year. The formation of a special committee had resulted in a considerable development of interest on the social side, and the usual picnic and dances had been highly successful, while in addition a tennis tournament and cricket match had been played, in the hope that these functions would also become annual events. The report concluded with an expression of satisfaction on the part of the executive concerning the financial position of the section, subscriptions last vear amounting to iM.
Officers in executive positions were reelected without exception, as an indication of the section's confidence in the controllers of its affairs. Mr J. Jackson was returned as chairman. Mr. M. T. John as vice-chairman, Mr. A. W. Hampton as hon. secretarv and treasurer, and Mr. G. H. Seddon as hon. auditor.
