UAWA COUNTY

COUNCIL'S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the TJawa County Council was held on Saturday last, there being present Crs. E. H. Boland, chairman, H. P. Barron, J. McNeil, J. L. Reeves, C. E. Smith, S. K. Spencer and P. T. Weeks. Leave of absen,'co was granted to Cr. E. C. Loisel. The Maip Highways Boqfrd advised that the board took over the mainteii: 'ance of; 11 miles of the main East Coast road from April 1, 1930.—Received. It was decided that an additional mile of thei Tolaga-Tau.whareparac road be applied for as a secondary main highway. The Public Works Department, Gisborne, asked for recommendations as to work which might be undertaken as relief works ,this winter —The letter was held over until next meeting. Cr. Smith was authorised to attend the town-planning inquiry in Gishome on May 15 as the representative of the llawa County Council. _ The Cook* County Council forwarded £l4B 4s. 6d, being the county's share of the heavy traffic, license fees collected to March 3L .1930.—Received. Mr. Gerald Black forwarded a cheque for formation work on Black's road, and asked that tho surfaceman be. put on to clear small slips —The surfaceman was instructed to spend three or four days on the road to oleir slips. Dr. Basil Paffe and the Gisborne Slieepfarmers', FrozerK Meat and Mer cantile Co. wrote concerning the state of Resolution street to Dr. Page's house. —lt was decided that the:writers be advised that nothing could be done until the annual meeting in May, when the estimates wo-ild be, considered. The poundkeeper's report showed 12 head of stock impounded during the month.—Adopted. The electrical engineer's report' was adopted, Mr. Murphy was instructed to take charge of all outside men until a permanent officer was appointed. ; On the motion-of the chairman, seconded by Cr. Barron, it was decided ihat on account of the illness of the engineer, and the uncertainty of his retujin, the Public Works Department.lie asked to , scud their plant supervisor to >ToJaga Bay to make a written offer for the plant required. , .Instructions were given to have the plans and specifications for the Paraheka free grant prepared and proposals submitted to the Public Works Department.
