OBITUARY
MRS. C. J. BENNETT The sad news was received in Gisborne this week of the death in Dargaville on Friday last of Mrs. C. J. Bennett, formerly of Gisborne. The late Mrs. Bennett,' was highly respected and well loved by a wide circle of relatives and friends in this district, and her untimely demise will bo deeply regretted. Deceased was a daughter of Mrs. and the lato Mr. VV. G. Foster, of Wellington, her father having formerly been manager of the Gear Meat Co., and a trustee in many estates, some of them itr Poverty Bay! After her marriage to Mr. 0. J. Bennett, who at that time was a partner in the firm of Bennett and Sherratt, her life lay for many years in Gisborne, where Iter lively social spirit and warmth of nature gained for her scores of friends outside her own family circle and made her one of the most highly respected members of the community. Some two years ago Mr, and Mrs. 'Bennett, with their only son, removed from Poverty Bay to Dargaville, where they had a small property, and since her advent there Mrs. Bennett had become firmly ensconced in the hearts of her new neighbors, as the large, attendance at her funeral attested. The late Mrs. Beniyl.l is survived by her husband and son. and by four sisters and a brother. Her mother resides in Wellington.
MRS. AMY RATCLIFFE
The death occurred yesterday at Cook Hospital of Mrs. Amy Katci'ilTe. after a prolonged illness the outcome of which seemed foregone. The deceased had been in hospital for three months, hut previously had heei' receiving treatment at home. Deceased was horn in Ohiham, England, in 1897), and came lo New Zealand seven years ago. She was a member of the Salvation Army community from childhood, and continued he" connection ailer coming to Gisborne, Mr. Ilateliffo being a member of the army hand here. Mrs. Ratclilfc is survived hy her husband ami four children, the eldest of whom is nine years of age. Much sympathy will he extended to the relatives. The I'uneia l will take place at 2 p.m. to-morrow, hom I lip Salvation Army citadel.
Many friends from (lishorne. Rtuitoria, Waipiro Bay, and other parts of the Coast were present at the funeral yesterday of the, late Mr. Edward Rowley Murphy, which took place at, the Tokoniaru Ray cemetery. The long cortege left I lie late Mr. 'Murphy's homestead on his Waikaro station at, 1.30 p.m. foi Urn Tokoniaru Bay Anglican Church, whcio a short service was held by the Rev. Mr. Anderson, who performed the last rites at the graveside at 2 p.m. The pallbearers were Messrs. John Murphy, J. R. Morris, W. I.angdon, E. Dover, 11. K. Dodd, and Li. M. Reynolds.
