,MAN BLAMES FIRMS GAOLED FOR TWO YEARS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. After hayingi pleaded guilty to, 19 charges of false pretences, involving goods and money to a total value of AJI92 6s Bd, and other charges of the theft of a cheque and cheque, tonus, John Andrew Riddel! was sentenced by Mr. E. Page, S.M., to two years' Hard labor. His operations were simple and widespread. Ho went; to various towns, posing as. a, farmer., ordered, furniture on the pretence that he, was hpuse. furnishing, and had it sent to country railway stations, but never'collected it. During the proceedings he stressed the great ease of the operations, laying the blame largely on the firms for never raising questions. He had never even given any real address, as a directory would have shown immediately.
