OLD WORLD

SENDS ITS LOVE TO NEW MARCONI TALKS SYDNEY, March 30. Distance was annihilated by radio recently, when Signor Marconi spoke from his yacht 10,000 miles away in the Mediterranean, and one-fifteenth of a second later his voice, was heard in Sydney. His message was picked up by the I.a Bemuse station of Amalgamated Wireless, and broadcast by 2BL. and at the Electrical and Radio Exhibition at the Town Hall, Svdnev. Boor amplification at the Town' Hall made it difficult to hear the speech in some parts of the hall, but many of the audience were able to follow' it. On account of the small aerial on the yacht, and the low power (| kilowatt) at which Marconi's voire was transmitted, the results are regarded by engineers as satisfactory. "Hello! Australia." said Marconi, in his broadcast. "Marconi speaking, (Jenoa, Italy. I am delighted lo speak to von in votir -rent city. I was glad too', that the switching on of your lights was so' successful.

"1 hope to meet you all in your wonderful country soon. Meanwhile, we send the love" of the old world to von noble people of the new world. Marconi repeated his message several times.

Mr. 11. \Y. Humphries, a well-known wireless amateur, picked up Mart-mii without difficulty, from bis home, 1," hleming street. Wollstonecrafl.

"1 nicked up Marconi at 4.15 testing with 2ME on the carrier wave, from his yacht 'the Electra. v at Genoa, the call "sign of which is TI'.DK." said Mr. Humphries. "1 distinctly heard him getting ready for the Town Hall "broadcast. Marconi' said he hoped to have more talks in the future, and said that probably better results would be obtained both ways, when his yacht wenl out to sea. At present, he was screened by the city 'of'Genoa:, and hy a high mountain. -He made arrangements for another test at an earlv date."
