A relic of the early days of Wellington is on view in a shop window. It is an old iron sewing machine. Its age is about 90 years and it is'claimed to be the first sewing machine used in New Zealand.
When the £61,000 loan is cleared, as will bo the case in eight years, the Hawera County Council should be one of the best financed counties in New Zealand. Hawera has raised no loan since 1926.
