THE S.S. WAINUI

CHSBQRNE-DUNEDIN TRADE

The Union S.S. Co.’s new cargo stearner Wainui, which will take up the s.s. Waipahi’s running in tlie Dunedin-Wdlingtou-Niipier-Gishonie service, is expected to arrive at Wellington op Friday from Glasgow. The s.s. Wmgatui, which will take over the. service prior to the arrival of the Wainui, is now loading at southern ports. The Wainui, which is bringing a cargo of coal,’is under the command of Captain G. B. Hodilinott. She was built by It. and W. Hawthorne. Leslie and Go. Lid., Hebburn, and is of 1500 tons gross register. Constructed to Lloyd’s highest class, she is 233 ft. in length over all by 38.3 ft in breadth by 21ft in depth to shelter deck. Steam is supplied by two single-ended niultituhular boilers to a triple-expansion engine. The machinery was supplied by tlio St. Peter's engine works of tho builders of the hull. Although built specially for Ihe Dunedin- Welling! on-Nelson-New Plymouth service, (lie vessel will enter for a time the Dimed in-Well ingt on -Napier-( lisliorne run, and will leave Wellington on April 26 for Dunedin.

The fourth, of the company’s now vessels, the Tallinn, is at present on her way to Sydney, and the fifth. Hie Waimarino, is due to leave England lot New Zealand abiurt the end of this month.
