MINE OWNER’S FUNERAL LATE MR. JOHN BROWN * SYDNEY, March 8. The funeral of the late Mr. John Brown at Newcastle to-day was the largest ever seen here. Thousands lined the route. All classes of men and women gathered in the streets. Six largo cars were loaded with flowers. One wreath was from Mr. Brown’s oldest friend, Sir Adrian Knox, Chief Justice of the High Court. The Miners’ Federation was represented by the secretary, Mr. D. Davies, and the Northern Collieries Association by Mr. C. M. McDonald. It is not generally known that Mr. Brown made repeated gifts of large sums of money during his life-time to charities, and even to distressed miners’ families, always anonymously.
