BYRD'S EXPEDITION
BRITAIN’S ASSISTANCE MESSAGE OP APPRECIATION WASHINGTON, Feb. 13. The State Department lias transmitted a message to the British Government from Admiral Byrd, thanking Britain for her assistance to his expedition, 'the message, in part, is as follows :~— “1 am eternally grateful and anxious very much that air should be made aware of the friendly concern of the nation from which emananted Scott, Khackleton, Mawsou and Evans, whose distinguished service always draws from us the most friendly and profound admiration of their leadership and abilities. We have on all sides received evidence of the cordial interest of the British Empire in our own efforts, more particularly New Zealand, which has from the beginning extended to the expedition Iho utmost hospitality and courtesy. While we are not yet keenly apprehensive over our predicament, which is potentially quite serious, 1 naturally am attempting to leave undone nothing that will ensure the safety of my men.” .
