INSOLVENT TRADERS
COMPULSORY BANKRUPTCY
«Per Press Association.; OHKISTGHURCH, this day. A discussion on insolvent traders look place at yesterday’s conference oi the New Zealand Federation of Master Plumbers. The subject was brought up in a remit introduced by Mr. W. J. Jenkins, one of tiie Dunedin delegates. The remit was that steps be taken to secure an amendment of the Bankruptcy Act to make it compulsory for any insolvent trader to file a petition in bankruptcy. "It seems to be doubtful what steps could, be taken," said the president, Mr. C. W. Oborn, who moved that the subject he referred to the executive to •act in conjunction with other associations. ■ ' Mr. ’E. G. Downrick said it would be a drastic action if a man who had been adjudged a bankrupt could bo debarred from entering into business again for some years. It ought to bo possible to judge a man to bo incompetent as a business man. He thought that they were too lax with sucfi men. Incompetent men in business were a menace. After some further discussion tho motion was carried.
