P.B. TURF CLUB MEETING
SECOND DAY OPENS WET
Conditions l’or the second day of Hie Poverty Bay Turf Club's meeting at tlie Makaraka course to-day were anything -but pleasant, for heavy rain yesterday and this morning had made ‘.he footing about the grandstands wet and muddy, and despite the measures taken by the club officials for the comfort and convenience of the patrons the effect of the min made, itself felt on the spirits of the race crowd. The attendance in the early part of the programme was smaller than usual, as was to bo expected, and there was a general anticipation that the totalisator figures would also show this effect to a considerable extent. The secretarial staff under Mr; I>. R. DcCosta, and the totalisator staff likewise carried out their duties with their customary efficiency, and every thing they could do to offset the depressing influence of the weather was done.
Track conditions were much changed from the first day, and form established in the last two weeks was difficult to follow as a result.
